Family Therapy
I support families to navigate the challenges of family life, this can include emotional dynamics, generational patterns and different communication and parenting styles. You may be concerned about your child or teenagers behaviour, their mental health or their relationships. They may be having angry outbursts, seems depressed or anxious - or all three. As parents we can get to place where we feel we have tried everything and we feel powerless to make a difference in our child’s life, we run out of options. Advice from well meaning family and friends can add to difficulties, contributing to feelings of isolation and of being judged. I specialise in helping parents and caregivers to understand and respond to the emotional needs of their children.
Sometimes it is helpful to work with the child or young person in the room, supporting communication and relationships in real time. Occasionally, it may be helpful for me to work individually with children or young people alongside work with parents.
I always work collaboratively with families, therapy is tailored to meet the families individual needs.
I can offer face to face or virtual psychotherapy. I am based in Loughborough, Leicestershire. Please use the form to book an initial call (up to twenty minutes free of charge).
Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy
With some families I use an approach based on Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, an attachment focused family therapy (Dan Hughes, 2011). This evidence-based approach is rooted in neuro-scientific theory and is designed to build trust and security between children and their caregivers. Together we work to heal relational wounds and strengthen bonds.
Secondary Trauma
Using body-based trauma informed approaches I help individuals release tension and stress stored in the nervous system. This is particularly powerful for parents and caregivers who may experience chronic overwhelm or burnout. By working with the body we support the restoration of a sense of safety and ease in daily life.
